Crossing Swordtail + Molly=????

Postby goldrockss » Fri Nov 28, 2008 5:11 pm

Yesterday as usual i was feeding my fish [at] tht time i found tht one of my male swordtail was actually  attracting a female molly for breeding
i was bit confused dont know wht 2 do  .......
i left them 2 their own fate......

But if crossing btwn platies & mollyies is possible....... :woohoo;

thn; I m jst thinkin abt to cross a Sailfin male molly with female sword tail (i know tht females dont have tails like male sword tail)

at the same time 2 cross a male swordtail with female molly.....

& lookout for the output.... :geek:
hope it works........ :beerchug:
Regards,
Raj....

Dear Goldrocks

You can not cross a swordtail with a molly. There won't be any output :-). You can cross swordtails and platy. Not with mollies.
Thanks & Regards

Sorry no power no place to say... we were trapped and surrounded by water. Some how escaped and reached Bangalore today. So could not come online.

Now answering your questions

Crossing swordtail/platy with mollies are known to produce no fries or in some cases infertile fries. As Ramalingam said you can cross Swordtails & Platies. In fact the swordtails and platies you see in LFS are not true X.hellerii or X.maculatus. Most of them are hybrids. But feel free to experiment with your swordtail and molly. Because you will never know what will be the result irrespective of what other say in Internet. All the best...
I am happy to see more livebearer enthusiasts here. Livebearers are celebrated in American and European continents. Livebearers don’t enjoy that respect here.

Cheers,
Mohan.
